Each year we gather some of the world's top thinkers and doers for a one-day exploration into the new innovations to come. The Imagine Talks event started in 2014 and focuses on women empowerment, entrepreneurship, and social impact.
The success of Imagine Talks is based on bringing together some of the world's most amazing speakers, spanning many different fields of expertise converging into unique connections, ideas, and opportunities—limited only by imagination.
Ashley Liao
Nominee Young Entertainer Award Actor, Singer, and Songwriter
Born and raised in Orange County, CA, and of Taiwanese and Chinese descent, Ashley Liao began acting at the age of 10 in community theater. Due to her outgoing and lively personality, her parents thought it would be a good outlet for her. In December 2023, she graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a degree in Communications focusing on legal and political communication studies. Liao is most well-known for playing the iconic character 'Ever' in the Paramount+ movie Love in Taipei and ‘Clemensia Dovecote’ in the movie Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirs and Snakes.
Cynthia Gouw
Award Winning Model and Actor
Cynthia Gouw is an American actress, an Emmy-winning television news anchor, and a top fashion model. She is most well-known for playing the Romulan ambassador 'Caithlin Dar', in the movie Star Trek: The Final Frontier. Gouw also won a number of beauty contests, including Miss Los Angeles Chinatown 1983 and Miss Chinatown USA 1984. She later became the first Asian-American to be named the "$100-Thousand Dollar Spokesmodel Grand Champion" on the popular talent show Star Search. She is a sought-after speaker for leadership and foreign policy organizations and also a lifestyle and beauty influencer with 400k followers across Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest.
Rich Ting
Award Winning Creative Director and Actor
Actor Rich Ting was born in Los Angeles, California, and is a 4th generation Asian American. Growing up as an athlete, Ting played collegiate football at Yale University while earning a B.A. and then went on to achieve dual J.D./M.B.A. degrees. Soon after achieving his academic goals, he realized that he needed to switch careers and pursue his passion for the entertainment industry, specifically as an actor. Ting is most well-known for playing the iconic character 'Bolo' in the HBO Max drama series Warrior and ‘Jackie Ming’ in the Paramount+ series Tulsa King.
Janet Hsieh
Award Winning International Performer and Actor
Janet Josephine Hsieh is a Taiwanese-American television personality, model, and violinist. She is also a black belt in taekwondo, trained sushi chef, fluent speaker of four languages, and a wife and mother of two. She was also the host of the Discovery Travel and Living Channel's long-running series Fun Taiwan for 16 seasons. She was nominated for four Golden Bell Awards in the Best Host of a Travel Show category (winning in 2011) and two Asian Television Awards in the Best Entertainment Presenter category (receiving a Highly Commended designation in 2017).
Kyla Zhao
Award Winning U.S.-based Singaporean author and writer
Kyla Zhao's books have been featured by CBS, NBC, Good Morning America, Vogue, Elle, Buzzfeed, South China Morning Post, and more. Kyla was selected as a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree, named a Tatler Leader of Tomorrow, and awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the California State Assembly. Besides novel-writing, Kyla has an extensive magazine editorial portfolio. Previously, she was a fashion and lifestyle writer at Vogue Singapore. She has also written for the Singapore editions of Harper's Bazaar and Tatler, covered the Asian Television Awards. She now works at a tech company in Silicon Valley after graduating from Stanford University in 2021.
Sona Kim
Miss Asian San Francisco
Sona is an artist, founder of a non-profit organization and is planning to pursue a career in law. She plans to become a lawyer who speaks up for the AAPI community. Sona also loves to travel around the world taking cooking classes in different countries! She has been to 28 countries and counting.
Rebecca Wang
Miss Asian STEM
Rebecca is an aerospace engineer focusing on satellite-based navigation with an interest in policy. Working previously at SpaceX and NASA JPL, she is currently completing her PhD in Aeronautics & Astronautics at Stanford University and aspires to influence STEM policy in her aerospace career.
May Hu
Miss Imagine Talks
May has worked as a tech strategy consultant at Deloitte, serving clients in higher education. Previously, she has worked as a program manager at Microsoft, first in Azure Cloud and then in their Startups division. After work, she enjoys serving the underprivileged, transfer students, and small business owners in Chinatown.
Asian Women Alliance
Asian Women Empowerment Organization of Stanford
AWA provides a space for Asian women, Asian-American women, and allies of all identities to gather in solidarity with one another and deepen their understanding of ethnic identity while creating lasting bonds. It is an ethnic, cultural and social organization and works to raise awareness about Asian women's identities and gender-based violence, It stands in solidarity with other women of color and aims to educate community members about cultural identity, to be of service to local women’s shelters, and host fun social events.
Terri Lin
Miss Imagine Talks
Terri is a professional residential realtor. She is a listing specialist for trust and probate estates. She decided to pair her high emotional intelligence skills and supplementary knowledge by serving the most emotional type of clients who are coping with the loss. She finds value in guiding families through one of the most important transactions in their lives.
Hannah Chea
Miss Asian Popularity
A former data engineer for Paramount+, Hannah graduated early from UC Berkeley after studying Data Science and Asian American Studies. Also a fiber artist, Cambodian dancer, and award-winning French horn player, she loves helping out her local art events. Today she leads the marketing team for Oyster XO and she has been covered by SF Gate and CNBC for her work in the community.
Tiffany Chang
Miss Asia USA 2024
Tiffany Chang served as the 2024 Miss Asia USA and is a junior at Stanford University. She has modeled for high-end designers like Kenneth Barlis and Kiki Wang. Growing up, Tiffany realized the importance of representation and the impact of having role models who mirror one’s own experiences. Her triumph over adversity fueled her passion for advocacy, particularly in championing diversity and inclusion.
